When Jesus walked the earth people described Him in a lot of ways: Rabbi, Teacher, Messiah, Savior, Healer, Protector, but there was one word used to describe Jesus that was meant as an insult: Friend. Jesus was friend to sinners. He was friend to those who stole, lied, cheated, lived broken, dark, evil lives, but this “insult” is one of the greatest things we can ever experience. That Jesus would call us, the liars, cheaters, broken, hateful, sinful people, friend, but do I see myself this way? As Jesus’ friend?
